Drone jamming guns are portable counter UAS (unmanned aerial systems) devices that use directional antennas and a rifle or pistol-style form factor to provide an intuitive point-and-shoot capability for defeating drone threats.

Drone jammers may be used by military forces, law enforcement or security personnel to protect people, controlled airspace, or critical areas such as airports, industrial facilities and government buildings.

How do Anti-Drone Guns Work?

Anti-drone guns emit strong electromagnetic pulses on frequencies that are commonly used by drones to communicate between the aircraft and the ground control station (GCS). These may include 900 MHz, 2.4 GHZ, and 5.8 GHz, as well as cellular communications frequencies for 4G and 5G.

The legitimate signals are drowned out, leaving the drone unable to communicate. With many models of UAS, this can result in the aircraft either attempting to land immediately, or returning to the operator or another predefined home position.

Counter-UAS guns may also be able to overwhelm GNSS satellite navigation signals such as GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and Beidou. If the drone is left unable to navigate by GNSS, it may crash or immediately land. Many models of drone jammer guns are able to disrupt both communications (RF Jammers) and navigation signals (GPS Jammers).

C-UAS Gun Advantages & Legislation

Drone jammer guns require minimal setup and training, making them ideal for a wide range of operators. They are also non-kinetic, allowing the disruption of the drone threat to be handled more carefully with lower risk of damage to property or injury to people. However, the use of drone jamming devices is subject to strict regulations, since they can potentially interfere with other electronic devices and so unauthorized use my have severe legal implications.
